Once round the Needles, we anchored in Alum Bay and enjoyed a bit of calm while we ate and got ready for the second dive. With the weather worsening, we were a bit restricted for dive sites so opted to dive on the historical bow section of HMS Pomone. This is the remains of a wooden sailing vessel which sank after running onto the Needles. The site has been surveyed and the major items of wreckage are marked underwater with orange buoys. Your imagination has to be a bit good to view this as a ship but its an interesting collection of ancient timbers, big brass pins and lead sheeted scuppers and ports. Visibility was pretty poor but as the max depth was only around 7 metres, there was enough sunlight to be able to peer through the soup.
