......

First off yes, we are dedicated to the students staff and alumni's of Southampton Solent University and by that we see our job in enabling our students to learn and then go diving in the safest environment possible, WHILE HAVING A LOT OF FUN - That bit is really important.

The club has been going now in various guises for just over 20 years and in that time has a stunning record of producing a lot of hi-quality divers, many of whom have gone onto work in the industry as dive professionals. There are very few sports which you can turn into a career path, but scuba is defiantly one. SUCS also has links with variety of other organizations to enable it's members to interact with those who have experience in Marine Archeology, Marine Biology and Maritime History. Mind if that bit sounds boring, just come for a splash and join in the socials.

To start with we need to kick off with some basics, lets' get down to training first.

Basic Training

SUCS Training Club
Our training needs to start fast and be quite intensive over the winter to max the time you have at Uni. We also need to watch the timetable and those nasties like exams and dissertations which have a tendency to cut into training-time.

So from October to Easter we dedicate our efforts as a training club. Whatever grade you want to achieve, that can be as a diver, technical diver or Instructor, it's all available to you. That doesn't mean that we only do training, all the SUCS overseas holidays take place over the winter months and there is always somebody planning on getting wet ...................................... Sport Diver - Rescue Training

Dive Club
Once past Easter we switch to dive club mode and the emphasis is on what you joined to do, go diving. Trips are planned around the demographic of the club and who actually wants to go diving. We are pretty successfully at providing something for everybody and have already got some boats booked for the 2012 season !!!

Major Bonus with SUCS = Free Kit !!!
Diving isn't exactly a cheap sport and getting enough kit together can be real hurdle for some. To enable our students, we've found that the best way is to provide free kit, with not even a hire charge as part of membership. That's not just the major items costing around £2000, but absolutely everything, including drysuits .You can if you like join us and in your whole time in SUCS, not buy as much as a mask.

We don't care what your motives are !!!

You might want to get a diver cert for your gap year, you should have done it earlier and it's your 3rd year, a foreign student back home in 6 months, or at Warsash and on placement for 6 months - to us it doesn't matter.

If you are here for 3 months or 3 years, as far as we are concerned, once a member of SUCS we treat everybody exactly the same
. ........Joining SUCS

What about when I leave?
Even though we treat all members the same, we don't want to train you and let you just disappear, you have after all become one of our friends. Which is why all trips, holidays and even further training (when we can arrange it) are available to all our alumni members.

.....SUCS meets on Tuesdays at 6.50pm in HCO33

For more info, don't forget that you can always email and ask.
There is nothing worse than getting to the end of your third
year and saying that you'd always thought you should have tried it.
